Confidential information remains confidential: our AI solution automatically recognises and redacts sensitive data. For maximum security and GDPR compliance.
In a business context, artificial intelligence refers to systems that process language, text and data, and use this information to independently generate responses, make decisions or carry out process steps. Relevant technologies include, amongst others, machine learning and generative AI: language models (LLMs) that understand and generate text.
AI becomes particularly relevant to business in areas where growing volumes of communication, dispersed corporate knowledge and repetitive tasks tie up significant resources. It is important to distinguish this from AI tools such as ChatGPT: public AI services offer no control over the processing of critical business data. Enterprise AI runs the same technology within the organisation’s own Azure environment or entirely on-premises, in compliance with the GDPR and with full data sovereignty. The foundation is the organisation’s own data: to achieve company-specific results, relevant sources must be reliably integrated. This can include structured data from ERP and CRM systems, as well as documents, knowledge databases or other unstructured content.
AI solutions can boost efficiency, reduce costs and ease the workload on staff by automating repetitive tasks and making knowledge available more quickly:
Efficiency & time savings: Routine enquiries, document searches and manual redactions are carried out automatically, round the clock.
Cost reduction: At Carl and Carla’s, for example, the operating costs per automated call-back are less than one euro.
Scalability: Peak workloads and growing volumes of enquiries are being managed without a corresponding increase in staff numbers.
Putting knowledge to good use: Information scattered across ERP, DMS and documentation systems can be accessed via knowledge agents.
Reducing the workload on staff: Teams focus on complex, value-adding tasks rather than repetitive requests.
collana develops and integrates specific AI solutions for a range of business processes. These include the ILAI AI agent for customer service and process automation, generative AI applications and knowledge agents based on Microsoft Azure, as well as on-premises AI solutions for particularly sensitive data and situations requiring a high level of data control.
ILAI is an AI agent that automates recurring customer and service enquiries across all channels: by telephone, email, web chat and WhatsApp. The AI assistant understands natural language, handles telephone calls independently, is available round the clock and supports 50 languages. An integrated SIP interface connects to existing telephone systems. Unlike stand-alone solutions, ILAI is fully integrated into the ERP system: via Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the AI agent recognises callers by their phone number, assigns order statuses, retrieves invoice and master data, and actively triggers actions. It can be operated either in the cloud or entirely on-premises, in compliance with the GDPR, in a German data centre.
The van hire company Carl and Carla provides a real-world example: ILAI handles the entire return process there, identifies callers by their telephone number or number plate, retrieves vehicle data such as GPS position and fuel level, and remotely locks the vehicle once the process is complete. Around 85 per cent of calls are handled without human intervention, with call times reduced by around 50 per cent and operating costs of less than one euro per call, even during peak periods of up to 200 calls a day.
Using generative AI solutions based on Microsoft Azure, collana makes internal corporate knowledge securely and effectively accessible. Role-based access rights, governance functions and controlled data integration lay the foundations for GDPR-compliant use within business processes.
A key area of application is knowledge agents, which make internal company knowledge accessible. Existing systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, the Power Platform, Teams and SharePoint are integrated directly. Bucher Municipal provides a practical example: technical documentation that was previously only available in a decentralised manner or in paper form is now made accessible worldwide by an AI chatbot based on Azure OpenAI. Other clients include 3A Composites and Pilatus.
For companies with particularly stringent data control requirements, collana implements on-premises AI solutions that do not rely on public cloud services. This enables internal documents and data to be searched, processed and utilised for AI-powered processes within the company’s own infrastructure.
One specific use case is the AI-based anonymisation of documents. The solution identifies personal information and automatically redacts it, for example in PDF files. It can be operated on-premises and is particularly suitable for public authorities, law firms and the healthcare sector.

Secure enterprise AI requires an architecture that is tailored to the specific security requirements. Azure-based solutions can utilise encryption, role-based access controls and governance features. For particularly sensitive data, collana also offers on-premises AI solutions that can be operated entirely within the organisation’s own infrastructure.
The collana Group holds all six Microsoft Solutions Partner designations. develappers, a company specialising in software and AI development, is also ISO 27001-certified. Client references such as Bucher Municipal, Hoval, Pilatus and Carl and Carla demonstrate how AI solutions can be effectively integrated into existing processes and system landscapes.
collana combines in-depth industry knowledge from the Group’s specialist companies with proven expertise in Microsoft and AI. Rather than selling individual tools, collana supports clients every step of the way: from identifying use cases, through architecture and proof of concept, to integration and operation. You can get started without a major project, for example through the AI Discovery Workshop, which takes you from the first use case right through to implementation.
Identification of relevant use cases and opportunities, including an assessment of the existing IT and data landscape.
Selection of the appropriate solution and operating model (Azure or offline AI), demonstration of feasibility through a proof of concept.
Long-term support, including monitoring, updates, assistance and further development.
AI solutions for businesses are software systems based on artificial intelligence that automate business processes and make knowledge actionable. These include AI agents for customer service, enterprise chatbots and knowledge agents based on language models, as well as the automated anonymisation of sensitive documents.
Applications involving high volumes of routine tasks pay for themselves particularly quickly: automated customer service via telephone, email, chat and WhatsApp; knowledge agents for distributed documentation; and the automated anonymisation of documents. The AI Discovery Workshop helps identify the right use case.
Yes. To achieve this, the architecture, data processing, access rights, contracts and organisational measures must be tailored to the specific use case.
Depending on security requirements, AI solutions can be run on Microsoft Azure, in hybrid architectures or entirely on-premises. With an on-premises offline solution, sensitive data can be processed within the organisation’s own infrastructure.
The costs depend on the specific use case, the required functionality, the operating model and the necessary system integration.
Following an initial analysis, collana can make a rough estimate of the likely implementation costs. A proof of concept can also help to assess technical feasibility before making a larger investment.
The duration depends on the complexity of the use case and the system landscape. The structured approach streamlines the process: following the assessment and architectural design, a proof of concept demonstrates feasibility before the solution is integrated into the production systems. The AI Discovery Workshop establishes an initial foundation within a compact timeframe, comprising prioritised use cases, a technological assessment and concrete next steps.
Freely available AI tools, such as ChatGPT, are suitable for general tasks but are often not integrated into a company’s processes, systems and access models.
Enterprise AI is specifically designed for a particular use case. It can access authorised company data, take roles and permissions into account, and be integrated with ERP, CRM, DMS or other systems. Security, data protection and governance requirements can also be specifically taken into account.
AI solutions can be used across a range of sectors. Documented areas of application at collana include customer service for high call volumes (Carl and Carla), e-commerce and wholesale (orders, returns, delivery status), production and manufacturing (maintenance knowledge at Bucher Municipal, internal helpdesk, supplier communication), the healthcare sector (appointment booking, patient enquiries) and the anonymisation of documents for public authorities and law firms.
