What it means to be an „exclusive Microsoft partner“ for a city The City of Winterthur has deliberately opted for a single-provider model: with immediate effect, Option 4.0 is the sole service provider responsible for managing and further developing the city administration’s entire Microsoft ecosystem. This includes: Microsoft client and server operating systems, Office 365 and Microsoft 365 (M365), Exchange, SQL Server and SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructures. Being the sole Microsoft consultant for all matters relating to a major Swiss city underscores the extraordinary trust that IDW places in Option 4.0’s expertise. Operational security and data protection as key requirements The City of Winterthur’s IT services set out clear priorities in their tender: the focus was on operational security, compliance with data protection requirements under Swiss federal law, and the specific guidelines of the Canton of Zurich. The future Microsoft partner had to demonstrate a proven command of best practices and possess many years’ experience in both on-premises and cloud environments. The existing ERP tools were insufficient to provide transparent and reliable insights into cost and revenue structures. The aim was to create a system enabling period-based analyses, customised reports and automated alerts – tailored to the needs of senior management, the controlling department and project managers. © Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft Solution Implementation Requirements and objectives were jointly defined in an initial workshop. Based on the TARGIT Decision Suite, b-imtec (a member of the collana Group) developed a centralised reporting system including interactive dashboards, KPI monitoring and role-based views. Highlights: Automation of the three-stage contribution margin calculation; HR reporting with significant time savings; a notification agent that automatically alerts users in the event of deviations. The system is based on Microsoft SQL technologies and was seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure. „Trust-based, ongoing communication and a shared understanding of the underlying models are key to good analysis. This helps to identify the software’s capabilities as effectively as possible and make the most of them. Controlling processes have been significantly accelerated, whilst data quality and comparability have been improved.
